In terms of weather/trail conditions, you never know what you are going to get in April in Northern Nevada. That’s all part of the adventure at the Virginia City Grand Prix. Last year riders battled deep snow and mud as a winter storm passed through the region. After a much drier winter, the dust was flying in 2026 and riders and spectators were able to enjoy some sun and milder temps.

Unlike previous years, I did not shoot the start during Saturday or Sunday’s race. Instead, I hiked up above the course to get a new perspective as riders exited town and first hit the dirt.

After the majority of riders passed my first photo point I rode to a different part of the course (north of town) to cover new territory and capture new perspectives, which included a steep climb on a rough section of road.

To cap things off, I rode back towards town to shoot a section of the course where riders were consistently getting some air, followed by a steep drop in with a dramatic mountain backdrop.
